Flight to Sioux Falls, SD (KFSD)

A week after we went to Des Moines, we decided to do another quick hop to Sioux Falls. As I went on more frequent cross country trips, I was gaining more confidence in landing at different airports and navigating different airspaces.

We left Crystal around 12:15pm and we landed in Sioux Falls at approximately 1:30pm. As with our previous trips, this was also an impromptu trip we decided when the weather was nice on a Sunday. This year, fall season decided to stick around for longer than usual in Minnesota, so we were able to get some more sights of fall colors.

As we departed Crystal heading south-west, we were surprised to see that some patches of the ground were white. Turns out, there were places south of us which had some snow on the ground while we had not seen any yet!

Sioux Falls (KFSD) is a relatively small airport. Similar to Crystal, this is also a class D airport. Although it has some commercial traffic, due to the size of the city, the airport was also not congested.

We landed at Sioux Falls and headed over to the Maverick Air Center FBO. Their service was great! They let us use their courtesy car for a couple of hours while we went sightseeing. We spent some time driving around and stopped for lunch at Bread & Circus Sandwich Kitchen. After exploring the Falls Park, we headed back to the airport to make our journey home.

We left Sioux Falls around 4pm and we were back in Crystal at approximately 5:30pm. This was a nice and easy 3 hour cross country trip which helped me gain more confidence as I continued progressing on my aviation journey.

As a skydiver, wingsuiter, and pilot, I’ve made it my mission to live life above the clouds. Whether I’m freefalling, soaring through the air in a wingsuit, or piloting an aircraft, the thrill of flight is my constant companion.

Blue skies and tailwinds.
