Flight to Madeline Island, WI (4R5)

Our latest adventure took us from Crystal, MN, to the serene and picturesque Madeline Island in Wisconsin. This day trip was one for the books, filled with exploration, relaxation, and the joy of flying.

The Journey Begins

Early in the morning, my wife and I prepared for our flight. The anticipation of discovering Madeline Island had us both excited. The flight from Crystal, MN, to Madeline Island is a beautiful one, offering stunning views of the landscape below. As a pilot, there’s nothing quite like seeing the world from above, and this trip was no exception.

Arrival and First Impressions

Upon landing at the island’s small airport, we unpacked our e-scooters, which we had thoughtfully brought along. These handy scooters turned out to be the perfect way to get around. We set off from the airport, the cool breeze and beautiful scenery setting the tone for the day.

For those who might not have their own scooters or bikes, the Madeline Island airport offers bikes for use. They suggest a $5 donation, which goes towards airport maintenance. It’s a great way to support the local infrastructure while enjoying a convenient mode of transport. However, keep in mind that overnight use of the bikes is not allowed.

Beachside Lunch and Exploration

Our first stop was the beach. The e-scooters made the journey quick and fun, and soon we were basking in the sun by the water. We found a quaint little restaurant right by the beach where we enjoyed a delicious lunch. The sound of the waves and the relaxed atmosphere made it a perfect spot to refuel and unwind.

After lunch, we decided to explore the town. Madeline Island has a unique charm, with its friendly locals and picturesque streets. We wandered around, taking in the sights and sounds, and even did a bit of shopping at some of the local stores.

Heading Back Home

As the day began to wind down, we made our way back to the airport. The return flight to Crystal, MN, was just as delightful as the journey there. Flying back as the sun began to set, we reflected on a day well spent. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about combining the freedom of flight with the joy of exploring new places.

Madeline Island is a gem, and our day trip there was a fantastic experience. From the flight itself to the adventures on the ground, it was a day we won’t soon forget. If you’re looking for a unique destination that combines natural beauty with small-town charm, I highly recommend flying to Madeline Island.
